Hedge Mod Manager
Download the Sonic PC mod manager - install, manage, configure and launch mods for Sonic Generations, Sonic Frontiers, Shadow Generations and other supported Hedgehog Engine games on Windows, Linux and Steam Deck.
What is Hedge Mod Manager?
Hedge Mod Manager - also known as HedgeModManager or HMM - is the dedicated app for installing, organizing, configuring, updating and launching mods for supported Sonic titles and other Hedgehog Engine games. Instead of moving files in and out of game folders by hand, it gives every mod a clear place, keeps each supported game organized, and turns the whole process into one focused flow: add mods, enable what you want, choose your codes, save, and play.
It is not a generic downloader. It is a purpose-built tool for one community and one job - making Hedgehog Engine modding easier to use without hiding the power that advanced players and mod creators rely on. It is a community open-source project and not an official SEGA app.
Everything in one mod manager
From your first installed mod to a large, carefully ordered collection, HMM keeps the Sonic modding workflow in a single window - and nothing changes in-game until you save.
Drag-and-drop installation
Drop a ZIP, 7Z, RAR or mod folder into Hedge Mod Manager and it scans the files and adds the mod to your list - no hunting for the right game directory and no copying files by hand.
GameBanana 1-Click
Most Sonic mods live on GameBanana. When a mod supports 1-Click installation, HMM receives the install directly from the page - far faster than downloading, extracting and placing files yourself.
Enable, disable & reorder
Mods live in one visible list instead of scattered across folders. Turn on what a playthrough needs, switch the rest off, and adjust load order when mods conflict or an author recommends a priority.
Codes & patches (HMMCodes)
HMM manages more than file-replacement mods. Use HMMCodes for gameplay tweaks, quality-of-life changes, fixes and experimental behavior - each shown with its name, author, category and description.
Configurable mods
When a mod ships configuration options, HMM exposes them inside the app through schema support, so you can change how a mod behaves without manually editing INI or config files.
Profiles & loadouts
Keep separate setups for vanilla-plus, visual upgrades, challenge runs, character swaps or big mod collections, and switch between them instead of rebuilding your install from memory.
Mod updates
Creators can publish update metadata and changelogs so supported mods are updated through HMM’s custom updater format - important for long-running projects and post-release fixes.
Open-source
HMM is developed in the open under the MIT license, with a public codebase and community contributions. Mods can declare dependencies so you know exactly what each one needs to work.
Supported games
Hedge Mod Manager supports a growing set of Sonic and Hedgehog Engine PC games. Support can vary by game, platform, store version and HMM release branch.
- Sonic Generations
- Sonic Lost World
- Sonic Forces
- Sonic Colours: Ultimate
- Sonic Origins
- Sonic Frontiers
- Shadow Generations (Sonic X Shadow Generations)
- Unleashed Recompiled
- Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
- Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
Windows users should use the latest stable release. Linux and Steam Deck users should use Hedge Mod Manager 8 Beta, the branch built for modern platform support.
How to install Hedge Mod Manager
Download Hedge Mod Manager
Download the latest stable Windows release (7.14-3). Keep HedgeModManager.exe in its own folder rather than copying it inside every game directory.
Run HedgeModManager.exe
Launch the app. It detects your supported Hedgehog Engine games automatically - pick the game you want to mod from the selector.
Add your mods
Drag a ZIP, 7Z, RAR or mod folder into the window, or use a GameBanana 1-Click button on a compatible mod page. HMM scans the content and adds it to the mod list.
Enable mods and codes
Tick the mods you want, check any available configuration options, add codes from the Codes tab, and adjust the load order if a mod needs priority.
Save and Play
Click Save and Play. HMM applies your selected setup and launches the game - no manual file moving before each session.
Come back any time
Return later to toggle mods, swap profiles or update mods, instead of rebuilding the whole install from scratch.
Two ways to install mods
1 · Drag and drop
Download a mod archive or folder, then drag the ZIP, 7Z, RAR or folder into the Hedge Mod Manager window. HMM scans the files and adds the mod to your list.
2 · GameBanana 1-Click
Open a compatible mod page on GameBanana and use the 1-Click install button. HMM opens the installer flow and adds the mod through the app - then just enable it and Save and Play.
Why use HMM instead of installing by hand
A real mod manager fixes the problems that break manual modding - and makes your setup easy to repeat.
Wrong folder placement
Manual modding fails most often when files land in the wrong directory. HMM keeps installed mods in one managed, recognizable structure.
Conflicting mods
When mods edit the same files, a visible list makes it easy to see what is enabled and set the load order an author recommends.
Missing dependencies
Mods can declare what they require, so you know what else needs to be installed for a mod to work correctly.
Outdated mods
Supported update metadata lets creators publish fixes in a format HMM understands, keeping maintenance clean for players.
Hard-to-repeat setups
A visible mod list and profile support make it easy to recreate or switch setups instead of starting over.
For mod creators
Hedge Mod Manager is part of the release pipeline for many Sonic mod creators. It gives a recognized, standardized format that players already know how to install.
A structured HMM mod can include
- A mod.ini file with title, description, version, date, author and author URL
- Include directories for the mod’s content
- Dependency declarations
- DLL files for advanced mods
- HMMCode files for runtime tweaks and patches
- Configuration schema files
- Update server URLs and Markdown changelogs
- A mod homepage or release URL
HMMCodes for advanced changes
HMMCodes let creators and advanced users define code and patch behavior. Codes can run every frame, while patches are applied before the application code is called.
They support author names, categories and descriptions, plus memory reads, writes, protected writes, assembly hooks and signature scanning - so HMM can manage far more than file-replacement mods. The project is open-source under the MIT license.
